Flea's Prologue
Fleas are the bothersome
and most commonly encountered insects that
bite human beings and animals. These are better
known as annoying, troublesome and blood sucking
pests that cause harm to humans, birds and
mammals. These blood sucking creatures are
popular for its jumping ability instead of
flying around. These reddish-brown, dark and
wingless pests are usually 3 mm long. They
can easily move via hair of their host body
due to their flattened and fish-shaped flat
structure. Their body is normally hard, polished
and covered with hair and they have short
spines directed backward. Their well shaped
sucking mouthparts make them able to suck
blood of their host body.
Fleas are vexatious for every body on which
it parasites. Flea bites causes many problems
like transmitting tapeworms, dermatitis (FAD),
skin infections such as irritations, itching
and skin allergies. In extreme cases, their
bites can also cause anemia if not treated
earlier. The infection or irritation caused
by these flea bites vary among every individual
and the kind of flea. Fleas are of several
species like sand stick tight fleas, fleas,
dog fleas, cat fleas, and human fleas. A small
insect like flea can cause many severe problems.
But to prevent these fleas from breeding is
not an easy task. It is very important for
us to take safety measures against them i.e.,
to keep our surroundings free from fleas.
With the change in lifestyle and with increasing
number of carpeted homes, presence of pets
and central heating in house has lead a regular
problem for the pet owners and pest controllers.
The conditions such as prolonged warm period
and humid weather in the months of summer
provide favorable condition for flourishing
fleas. Control measures should be taken especially
at areas where your pets rest and feed, because
this provide ideal condition for fleas eggs
and larvae to reside and alive. Things like
pets’ housing, bedding, blankets and
baskets and pets themselves should be targeted
in the cleaning process. You need to clean
or vacuuming your house interiors like floors,
furniture, curtain, and bedding in order to
control fleas.
Getting rid of fleas is very important for
you and your pets to be healthy and happy.
Once your pets have hazardous fleas, your
entire house is likely to get exposed to them.
Even though you take proper care of your pets,
possibility of fleas’ presence is quite
normal. You can also treat your pets with
medication that can help your pets getting
rid of fleas or these nuisance small creatures.
